Welcome to our Non-Qualified Stretch Distributions Calculator.

A non-qualified annuity is a long-term, tax-deferred insurance contract that is purchased with after-tax dollars and designed to provide supplemental retirement income. But what if your clients reach retirement and find that they don't need to use the annuity for income? They might consider leaving their non-qualified annuity to their beneficiaries in the form of a death benefit.

Generally, when a death benefit becomes payable, prior to annuitization, beneficiaries of non-qualified annuities may receive them:

  • As a lump-sum distribution,
  • Over a period of 5 years,
  • Annuitized over a period no longer than their life expectancy, or
  • As scheduled withdrawals over their life expectancy.

Scheduled withdrawals over the beneficiary’s life expectancy allow the potential for the contract value to continue to grow, tax-deferred, until distributed. This calculator has been designed to illustrate this distribution option.

To use the calculator, simply enter the appropriate information in the fields below and then click "Calculate." If spouse information is entered, it is assumed that the surviving spouse continues the contract at the death of the contract owner. Following the surviving spouse’s death, the death benefit will be payable to the non-spouse beneficiaries.

This calculator is designed to help you review distribution options for non-qualified annuities. It is provided for general information purposes only. Symetra Life Insurance Company does not assume any responsibility for the accuracy of the information provided, or for your reliance on the information in the analysis.

The information provided is hypothetical and is not intended to be a projection of future values. Actual results will vary. Any change in hypothetical annual return will modify values illustrated. Investments offering the potential for higher annual returns also involve a higher degree of risk to principal. Also, be aware that high annual returns are generally not sustainable over long periods of time. This report is not intended to provide specific investment advice. The potential affect of product fees and charges, investment management fees and state and local taxes are not taken into account. If these items were taken into account, the results would be lower. If you purchase a variable annuity, investment return and principal value will fluctuate, and units or shares, when redeemed, may be worth more or less than their original cost. The potential effect of inflation was also not taken into account.
